A quick morning post ![]()
The boys have been learning about money a lot lately!
Every Tuesday is pocket money day!
They get $4 each and we hit the shops ![]()
At the moment they are NOT interested in Op-shopping at all and strongly favor proper retail shops instead.
Our shopping trips are leisurely and slow, and we look at every single toy there is.
So much learning is happening!
With every item they like they ask “how much is this? ”
“It’s $29, Ethan. ”
“How much is that? ”
“It’s 2 times 10 plus 9.”
This repeats dozens of times, with any number between $1 to about $299.
So now they are getting more and more of a feel for how much the higher numbers actually are.
They’re also learning some multiplication. “Mum, 2 times 10 is 20!”
The other week I overheard them having this conversation:
“Leo, mum gave us $5 each! I’m gonna try to buy a train set! ”
“Yeah? Ethan, if we find a train at that’s $5 we can buy one each. Or if it’s $4.”
“Yes! Or if it’s $3 we can but one each, or if it’s anything smaller than 5!”
“If it’s more than 5 we can only buy one though. If we put our money together we can buy a train set for $10!”
Budgeting, multiplication, team work.
So cool :)!
This week they decided, after lots and lots of weighing up options, to combine their funds to buy a cake-pop maker together.
What a very cool investment!
We promptly took it home and got baking with it.
(It looks friendly yet creepy….)
Very yummy little cake balls!
Also, the other day, Nancy helped them identify coins (as in, how much is this coin)
She made a sorting game out of it, it looked pretty cool
Yesterday I rediscovered these wonderful shape tiles that I’ve had for ages.
I started playing with them, the boys joined me, and they ended up creating some really nice designs.
That was really fun ![]()
The last thing for today is this amazing flower I saw in Fremantle yesterday!
So beautiful.
Mark thought it might be a passion fruit blossom.
Check it out:
Isn’t it just amazing?
That’s all today!
Xx
P.S. Here another couple of pictures to document the utter joy of shopping for stuff with their own money ![]()
Just bought:
And here treasuring it for the rest of the day:
